The Schroth Method
Preventing further curve progression.
The Schroth Method is a scoliosis-specific approach that helps you improve alignment, breathing, and spinal stability through exercises tailored to your unique curve.
At BlendFit, Mary Beth Blend integrates her Schroth training and Level 1 (C1) certification into each client’s plan — using it as a foundational component within her personalized blend of care.
What to Expect
During a Schroth-based session, you’ll be guided through specific positions and movements designed around your unique spinal curve.
See how personalized, guided movement supports spinal alignment in real time!
With Mary Beth’s instruction, you’ll learn how to:
Lengthen and de-rotate your spine to improve alignment
Use targeted breathing techniques to expand compressed areas of the ribcage
Activate and stabilize key muscle groups that support your posture
Recognize and adjust your alignment in real time
Each movement is intentional, supported, and tailored — helping you understand not just what to do, but why it matters for your body.
You’ll not only learn the exercises, but also how to apply them in your daily life.
How it Works
The Schroth Method is built on three core principles that work together to support your spine:
Elongation & De-Rotation
Scoliosis can cause the spine to rotate and compress. Schroth exercises focus on gently lengthening the spine and reducing rotational imbalances to improve overall alignment.
Rotational Breathing
A key component of the method involves targeted breathing techniques that help expand areas of the ribcage affected by scoliosis. This can improve lung capacity while also supporting postural correction.
Muscle Activation & Stability
Through specific positioning and isometric muscle engagement, the body learns how to stabilize corrected positions — helping improvements carry over into everyday movement.
Why it Works
Scoliosis affects the body in three dimensions, and The Schroth Method addresses all three planes of movement:
Side-to-side (frontal plane)
Front-to-back (sagittal plane)
Rotational (transverse plane)
By combining postural correction, rotational breathing, and targeted muscle activation, this approach helps:
Improve postural alignment
Support spinal stability
Reduce asymmetrical muscle patterns
Increase body awareness and control
By working across all three dimensions, exercises are designed to create more balanced alignment and improved spinal support.
The Results
The Schroth method places great emphasis on conscious correction of posture during routine daily living.
You’ll learn how to apply this technique to everyday life to actively support your spine with guidance that helps you:
Recognize your optimal posture
Adjust your alignment throughout the day
Incorporate corrective strategies into daily activities
